## Tragedy in Damoh: Two Young Cousins Found Dead in Village Well
**DAMOH, MADHYA PRADESH** – A pall of gloom has descended upon Tavari village in the Jabera region following the discovery of two young cousins whose bodies were recovered from a well late Tuesday night.
The victims have been identified as 11-year-old Mansi, daughter of Santosh Singh, and 6-year-old Kavya, daughter of Pappu Singh. Kavya, a native of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, had been visiting her maternal uncle, Vinod Singh, to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
**The Disappearance and Discovery**
According to family members, the two girls went missing around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Panic ensued as the family launched an exhaustive search of the surrounding area, but to no avail. The local police were promptly notified and joined the search efforts alongside villagers.
The search took a tragic turn at approximately 10:00 p.m. when the girls’ footwear was discovered near an open well located in a field adjacent to their home. Utilizing flashlights to inspect the well, searchers spotted the bodies submerged in the water.
Local authorities and villagers worked together to retrieve the bodies, which were subsequently transported to the Jabera Health Center. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Wednesday morning, after which the remains will be handed over to the grieving families for last rites.
**Police Investigation Underway**
Tendukheda Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Archana Ahir confirmed that a search operation was launched immediately upon receiving reports of the missing children.
“We have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident,” SDOP Ahir stated. “At this stage, the family members have not expressed suspicion against any individual. We are currently questioning relatives and neighbors to piece together how the girls reached the well and the exact sequence of events that led to this tragedy.”
As the village mourns, police say they are keeping all possibilities open while they await the forensic report to determine the exact cause of death.
